School Based Enterprise
A school-based enterprise (SBE) is an entrepreneurial operation in a school setting that provides goods/services to meet the needs of the market. SBEs are managed and operated by students as hands-on learning laboratories that integrate National Curriculum Standards in marketing, finance, hospitality or management.

Competition at the Michigan DECA State Conference
Chapters participating in School Based Enterprise that receive the Gold Certification or Gold Re-Certification have the option to bring 1-2 student manager(s) to present at the State Conference, if they are not in an another competitive event that competes Saturday morning. Up to six teams will receive recognition at the Awards Session. Teams that receive the Gold Certification or Re-Certification do not have to attend the State Conference; they can advance directly to the International Conference.
Competition at the DECA International Conference
Chapters receiving the Gold Level Certification or Re-Certification will be eligible to bring an advisor and 1-2 student manager(s) to the International Career Development Conference. They will compete at the International Conference, presenting their project to a judge. The top SBEs will be recognized and receive an award.
