FAQ

Can students compete in more than one event?
Students may compete in only ONE competitive event, with the exception of MICAP, MIGMAP, SBE, and the online-only events and challenges.  Refer to this policy for more information.

What happens if a student needs to drop from a team event?
Refer to the Competitive Event Cancellation policy for specific information.

How many students can my chapter have compete in each event?
Refer to the Competition webpage here for specific information.

What happens if a student can’t attend the competition orientation at the State Conference due to sports, band, or a play?
Michigan DECA will excuse students from their Thursday event orientation meeting and comprehensive exam ONLY when the student has a school-related conflict that cannot be rescheduled or doctor’s note. Please note that practices for sports, drama, band, etc., are not applicable. A form will be available in January for Advisors to submit. Testing will be rescheduled to Friday at 10:00am or 3:00pm. Students will need to report on Friday to the event’s check-in at the first time listed in the conference program to receive their competition schedule.

My student needs to compete early or late at the State Conference due to sports, band, or a play. Can this be arranged?
Chapter Advisors may submit a letter on school letterhead for each student, detailing the request; include the student’s name, competitive event, and reason along with a signature. We will place a copy of this letter in the Event Director’s materials, who will make changes to the event schedule at the conference. Please note that we are NOT able to reschedule interviews, role plays and case presentations outside of the posted event timeframe, since these activities involve individuals from the business community that are evaluating students.

2026-2027 UPDATES
