FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Michigan DECA to meet for District Conferences

December, 2011: Over 7,100 student members of Michigan DECA will be invited to attend eight District conferences held throughout Michigan. Students will show business professionals and volunteer judges that they have the skills to become the world’s future workforce leaders. The conferences are an opportunity for business professionals to interact one-on-one with students educated in the free-enterprise system, and to get a sneak peek at their potential future employees.

The District conferences will be held at various universities and high schools where DECA members will compete for the right to advance to Michigan DECA’s State Career Development Conference (SCDC) held annually in March at the Hyatt Regency Dearborn. Out of over 2,500 students competing at the state conference, an elite group will be chosen to represent Michigan at DECA’s annual International Career Development Conference (ICDC), in Salt Lake City Utah, where they will compete with the best 12,000 DECA members representing chapters across the country.

Marketing educators and professionals have designed 20 events to help students learn skills for careers in marketing, management, merchandising and entrepreneurship. Regardless of the event, every competition provides a constructive avenue for individual and team expression, initiative and creativity. Once students demonstrate their acquired skills, they are recognized on stage in front of their peers as the top marketing students in Michigan.

DECA is the only international student organization operating through schools to attract young people to careers in marketing, merchandising, management and entrepreneurship. Its purposes are to teach occupational proficiency, and to promote understanding and appreciation for the responsibilities of citizenship in our free, competitive enterprise system. Ultimately DECA strives to ensure the future of our world’s economy by providing qualified and well-educated future business leaders.
