Invitation to Judge at the State Conference

You’re invited to serve as a judge at Michigan DECA’s State Career Development Conference. The Conference is the highlight of the year for more than 4,000 members and advisors of Michigan DECA.

Students who have qualified at earlier levels of competition will compete at this conference for the right to attend DECA’s International Career Development Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.

As a judge, you will have the opportunity to see DECA members in action. Your role as a judge, with your invaluable experience in industry, is vital to the success of this conference, DECA, and marketing education as a whole.

Thursday, March 5, 2020:

Business Operations Research Events
Judges will evaluate a presentation regarding marketing research or a business plan that the student team has developed.

Project Management Events
Judges will evaluate a presentation where the student team has used their project management skills to initiate, plan, execute, monitor, control, and close a project.

 

Schedule

  • Judges arrive for orientation by 1:00 p.m.
  • Judging will be completed by 7:00 p.m.
  • Lunch will be provided.

 

All judging will take place at TCF Center (formerly Cobo Center) in Detroit, Michigan.

Friday, March 6, 2020:

Individual and Team Events
Judges take part in a role-playing situation to evaluate how well students demonstrate their skills in marketing and management. In these role-play events, students are required to accomplish a task or solve a problem by demonstrating an effective, efficient, and spontaneous plan of action.

Friday Morning Schedule:

  • Judges arrive for orientation by 8:30 a.m.
  • Judging will be completed by 1:00 p.m.
  • Lunch will be provided.

Friday Afternoon Schedule:

  • Judges arrive for orientation by 12:00 p.m.
  • Judging will be completed by 5:00 p.m.
  • Lunch will be provided.

 

All judging will take place at TCF Center (formerly Cobo Center) in Detroit, Michigan.

DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. Aspiring to prepare more than 220,000 high school and college members for college and careers. DECA advisors, in 5,000 classrooms, employ DECA’s guiding principles. These principles explain the methods for implementing DECA in classrooms – and the expected outcomes. The Carl D. Perkins Act uniquely recognizes DECA as an integral strategy for delivering successful Career and Technical Education programs in high school and career centers.

DECA enhances the preparation for college and careers by providing co-curricular programs that integrate into classroom instruction, applying learning in the context of business, connecting to business and the community, and promoting competition. DECA members leverage their experience to become academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible, experienced leaders.
