State Leadership Conference
November 7 – 8
The 2016 State Leadership Conference provides students with the first opportunity of the year to network and collaborate with members from across the state. The conference will be held at the Marriott at the Renaissance Center in Detroit November 7-8, 2016. Engaging workshops and key note speakers are being planned for members attending. Members will also get the time to network with representatives from some of the top colleges in Michigan. A mock competition and a dinner cruise on the Detroit Princess riverboat will be held for those attending both days of the conference.
Whether you want to learn more about how being a DECA member can help you OWN YOUR FUTURE, or are a returning member getting ready for the year ahead, there is something for everyone at the State Leadership Conference!
All conference activities will take place at the Detroit Marriott. For Monday’s dinner cruise, the Detroit Princess’s boat dock is short walk away on the Riverwalk. Chapters will walk together as a group to and from the hotel.
All conference participants registering for both days of the conference will be required to stay at the Detroit Marriott, located at 100 Renaissance Center Drive, Detroit, MI 48243 313-568-8000
Chapters can choose to attend both days (Monday and Tuesday) or Tuesday only.
The registration fee includes lunch, participation in all sessions, and conference registration materials. The two day conference registration also includes a dinner cruise on the Detroit Princess.
Our suggestion is to park at the Miller Parking Garage, which is across from the hotel’s main entrance. The address is 414 Renaissance Drive West, Detroit, MI 48243.
To have a smoothly run conference, all adults are needed to work an assignment.
Delegate Code of Conduct Form
Each delegate attending the conference must sign the Michigan DECA Delegate Code of Conduct Form. This form is to be hand-carried to the conference by the advisor and not sent in with the registration.
During the conference and on the Detroit Princess dinner cruise:
To allow students to fully participate with the leadership activities, business casual attire will be allowed. Khaki (Docker) style pants (no cargo pants) will be appropriate for both males and females. Ladies should have blouses, sweaters, polo-style or collared shirts. Gentlemen should wear sweaters, polo-style, or collared shirts. Denim, T-shirts, hats, and cargo pants are not allowed.
The mock competition will only be offered on Monday, November 7th. It will be divided into two groups; first year DECA members will participate in 2 mock Principles judged event scenarios. Returning DECA members will participate in 2 mock Individual Series judged event scenarios. The scores will be added together and the top 20 in each group will receive recognition. Chapters may arrive any time between 1:00-4:30pm, according to the travel plans that best fits their needs. The last time available to start the mock competition is 4:30pm. Chapters that arrive earlier will be able to participate in the workshops and activities offered after their mock competition.
