New York Marketing Conference

November 16-20, 2011

Each year, Michigan DECA members can travel to the New York City Marketing Conference for an opportunity to explore a career track in the Financial, Advertising, Hospitality, Fashion or Sports and Entertainment industries. Over the course of the five day conference, students work in close cooperation with representatives of the New York business community and can get personally acquainted with leaders in American business while learning what it takes to succeed in each career track.

Participants will stay at the Grand Hyatt New York.  The 2,000 room Hyatt is connected to Grand Central Station on 42nd Street and Lexington (3rd) Avenue.  In addition to the modern rooms that are larger than typical New York City rooms, the hotel is close to the subway, a food court and shopping.  This venue will provide a good starting point for our members to visit businesses that are leaders in Finance, Fashion, Hospitality and Sports and Entertainment Marketing.  Reserve your space soon!

Career Tracks

Michigan delegates will have the option of selecting a career area to follow during the conference. The career tracks will be limited to the first 25 participants that register for each, including advisors. A career area may be cancelled if it is selected by less than 15 people. If a career area is cancelled, those participants registered for it will be assigned to one of the remaining areas.

You Can’t Fight Fashion – Up close and inside the apparel industry
If you’re interested in any aspect of fashion, from design to merchandising, this is the career area for you. Includes trips to New York design houses, specialty boutiques, trendsetting department stores and the mecca of fashion, the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Behind the scenes of the financial industry New York City is the heart of the world’s financial system. You will get to see major financial market aspects: from Wall Street to visit to one of the country’s leading brokerage firms.

Be My Guest – New York City’s hotel & restaurant industry
Where better to learn the ins and outs of the hospitality industry than the Big Apple? You’ll go behind the scenes and see what it takes to keep a classy, contemporary hotel a draw for both business travelers and celebrities alike. Plus, you’ll tour some of New York’s great restaurants and find out what it is that keeps people coming back. You won’t want to miss this track if you’re interested in the hospitality industry!

Take in the Big Apple Experience

Not only will we explore exciting career opportunities in New York, we’ll also dive right in to the Big Apple Lifestyle.

Take an appetite for fun
Meals will be an experience in themselves. Together we’ll dine at three cool places guaranteed to be memorable and photo-worthy, other meals will be on your own.

And take the time to get some sleep
